Battle of Biville-la-Baignarde Scenario

This is a scenario for 1940 "A Day in Hell - Battle of Biville-la-Baignarde” which was first run on 24th January 2026 at our Lardy Day down on the south coast of Hampshire at “Come and have a go if you think you’re LARD enough 2026”.

The scenario covers the actions of the 53e Battalion de Chasseurs Alpins and their fierce defence of the Normandy village of Biville-la-Baignarde from Schützen Regiment 13 on one day - the 10th of June 1940. The aim of this scenario is to highlight the bravery and tenacity of the French Army in the defence of their homeland, this was not a stroll to Paris for the Germans. The German Army incurred more casualties per day in Fall Rot than they did in Fall Gelb, and up to 90,000 Frenchmen would die before the Armistice was signed.

On the day I also offered the players the option of taking an Event Card instead of accumulating a CoC point when on the receiving end of a double phase, these add flavour but are entirely optional and just for fun.

You can find the scenario and optional Event Cards in the Files section.

If you wish you can see the the historical background I have a post here, my scenario design process here and some pictures of the game on the Lardy Day too.

** Update 28th Sept 2026 ** The French deployment line is wrong in the pdf, it should be 20" in and not about 10" as it is shown in the map currently.

Enjoy!

Battle of Biville-la-Baignarde @Lardy Day 24 Jan 2026

On Saturday 24th January 2026, we held our Lardy Day called "Come and have a go if you think you're LARD enough" or rather paradoxically CAHAGIYTYLE for short?!?

With over forty attendees and more than a dozen games, it was chance to run my scenario of the Battle of Biville-la-Baignarde 1940.

We ran a morning and afternoon session which saw the Germans come close to winning the morning game but ran out of time, and in the afternoon some magnificent aggressive German advances that ended in their destruction by high explosive!

The scenario is a tough one for the Germans but winnable if they choice the right support options and chose the right time and place to press their attack.

I will post the scenario here and on the Facebook groups when I have finished the play testing and balancing.

You can read about the historical battle and the design process on previous posts.

Anyway to the photos of the day taken by fellow gamers and reproduced here. If you want to see my table (and others) on our Lardy day it is on Youtube here (3:57 time stamp for Biville).

Enjoy!

1940 French Platoon Gallery

I had the opportunity to get someone who knows the right end of a camera from the wrong end to take a few photos of my 1940 Frenchies. I must say I am very pleased with the outcome!
